*Asia Cup๐: Afghanistan Shock๐ฑ India As Game Ends in a Dramatic Tie*
AFG 252/8 (Shahzad 124, Nabi 64; Jadeja 3-46, Kuldeep 2-38)
IND 252-all out in 49.5
(KL Rahul 60, Rayudu 57, Karthik 44, Jadeja 25; Nabi 2-40, Rashid 2-41)
Match tied
The game was presumably thought dead, half-way through the Indian innings with the Men in Blue cruising at 141/2 chasing 253. And then Afghanistan somehow brought themselves back into the game with India losing their way in their supposed walk in the park. KL Rahul was trapped LBW after he missed a reverse sweep. MS Dhoni at No.4 was hard done when he was wrongly adjudged LBW but he couldn't review the decision. Manish Pandey's lazy waft outside the offstump gifted his wicket to medium pacer Aftab Alam and Kedhar Jadhav was unluckily runout at the nonstrker's end as he was backing up.
By the 40th over India had lost 5 wickets for just 60 runs. As the equation became a-run-a-ball, the Afghans turned the screws with some sensational fielding & tight bowling. Two direct hits resulted in two runouts and India were hanging on by a thread with all their hopes on Ravindra Jadeja. It went down to the final over with 7 required from 6 Rashid Khan deliveries and 1 wicket in hand.
Jaddu refused the single off the first delivery and struck the 2nd delivery powerfully towards deep midwicket. Even though it seemed like the ball had struck the skirting on the full, the third umpire ruled in favour of the fielding side, awarding 4 runs. Jadeja sneaked a single of the next delivery to bring rookie Khaleel Ahmed on strike. The tailender managed to get bat on ball and scoot to the other end to tie the scores. With 1 run required from 2 deliveries, the Afghan shoulders seemingly drooped. However, a short delivery from Rashid was hoisted towards midwicket and Najibullah Zadran came around to complete a neat running catch. The game was tied and Afghanistan were jubliant.
The minnows have ran all 3 teams close in the super 4 but are unlucky to exit the tournament with just 1 win (over SL). After a series of dull one-sided games, the dead rubber gave the fans a tie to remember.
Mohammad Shahzad was awarded the Man-of-the-Match for his valiant ton in the 1st innings.
